My final research for my master’s degree was a project that integrated new media technologies and research-based writing instruction. My 8th grade students participated in National Novel Writing Month (aka NaNoWriMo), and 87 of my 91 students successfully met their word goals, writing their own novels in the month of November.
The project incorporated Internet-connected laptops in my classroom, where students wrote their novels on Google documents and received support from the online NaNoWriMo writing community. The culmination of the project was free publication of their novels from CreateSpace.com, which made their novels available for sale. Click here to see (and buy!) their novels on Amazon.
The project was such a success that I created a website for other teachers who might want to bring NaNoWriMo to their students. Go to my NaNoTeacher website here.
